Tonight I am in Osmaniye, a city of about 200,000 people at the eastern edge of the Cukurova plain.
Early in December I said I was going to try to Couchsurf all the way across the Cukurova, and, knock on wood, it looks like I’m going to do that. Couchsurfing has been a great experience. I’ll be doing a write up on it in the days to come.
Today on the way into Osmaniye I saw a highway sign for Halep, the Turkish spelling for the city of Aleppo, Syria. It was the first time on this trip I’ve seen a highway sign for a city in another country, and I’m kind of excited about that. It reminds me the trip is shifting into another gear.
Osmaniye is about 28 miles from the Syrian border. It is closer to the border than it is to any major Turkish city.
